Catching people playing games on their phones is a ubiquitous sight in Korea. If you are lucky enough, you may find a train filled with people hooked into playing games on their phones. There is hardly any other country that cherishes video games as much as South Korea does. Nothing beats their love and determination for video games. This made them the top mobile game market in the world. South Korea is even known for making some fantastic games. Korea produces a wide variety of games. However, the roleplaying games produced in Korea are simply of the next level.

The Korean RPG has a style of its own. They offer you vivid visuals, endless activities, perfectly balanced mechanics, and distinct gameplay. Unfortunately, to Koreans, these games are more of a sport than just mere entertainment. They take it way too seriously, from competing with other players to grinding to unlock the best equipment.

We are about to list some of the most amazing RPGs in Korea that genuinely rule the players’ hearts. Korean RPG is best known for its fascinating stories and visuals. Let’s get to know some of the best RPGs in South Korea –

Wizard101

Developed and published by Kingslsle Entertainment released in 2008. It is a massively multiplayer game that is played online. It is available on Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows. This game gives you the thrill to save the Spiral in a school. You will be stepping into the shoes of a student of Ravenwood School of Magical Arts. Spiral is the galaxy in which the school is situated. You get to cast spells, use multiple weapons, and whatnot in this game. Wizard101 is a complete turn-based combat system game that you would love.

Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact has to be one of the most popular MMORPG games worldwide and not just in Korea. This miHoYo produced and developed game was launched on 28th September 2020. It has only been a year, and yet it has successfully become popular. Genshin Impact is now available only on Android, Windows, OS, PS4, and PS5. It is yet to be launched on Nintendo Switch. It takes you to a land of fantasy called Teyvat. You will be wondering about going on missions, collecting rewards and equipment. This game fascinates you with its magical story and visuals. Neverwinter Nights

This roleplaying game was released in18th June 2002 and is still ruling the Korean gaming industry. It was developed by BioWare and Obsidian Entertainment published by Atari, which was formerly known as Infogrames. It is available on Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, iOS, Linux, Android, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The game unravels in the city of Neverwinter of the Sword Coast region. You will be playing this game from a third-person perspective. However, if you are accustomed to Dungeons and Dragons, you will find the rules of this game quite similar.

ODIN: Valhalla Rising

Published by Kakao, this game was released on 29th June 2021 in South Korea. It is an open-world MMORPG. The game is based on mystical Nordic mythology. The video game has also adapted some elements of the Viking culture as well. It was developed with Unreal Engine 4. The game is available on Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, Linus, Android Studio, and iOS. It is integrated with a real-time graphic change. It has even incorporated 3D scanning and motion capture technology. You will not have to wait for the map to load to explore the world. You are sure to enjoy this one!

Gran Saga

This game that was initially released in January 1997 had to be on this list. This one here has anime-inspired graphics and has got all the anime-lovers to go gaga after this one. NPIXEL developed Gran Saga. It is a single-player action roleplaying game available just on PlayStation. Arc Entertainment developed the game. This game revolves around raising kingdoms. However, the cutscenes of the game make it more like anime. For example, you will experience first-person storytelling and exploration. But, during combat, it completely cuts to a third-person perspective where you can watch yourself and the enemy fighters.

Soul Walker

This free-to-play anime action MMORPG was released in 2016 on 6th April. It was developed by Lion Games Co. LTD. and published by Gameforge 4D GMBH. If you are apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic stuff, this one is undoubtedly for you. The game offers you an anime feel all through it, along with some pacy combos. If you want to defeat the merciless creatures in this post-apocalyptic war, you need to make wise decisions. It is all about precise timing in this game. Fascinating combats are a thing of this game.

Lineage

Released on 3rd September 1998 is developed by NCSoft, Snail, and Netmarble Neo. The game is available on Mac OS, iOS, Microsoft Windows, Windows Phone, Android, Play Station 5, and Nintendo Switch. It is an MMORPG based on medieval fantasy. It is one of the most popular games in South Korea. Not just that, it also has the label of the highest-grossing game franchise ever. You get access to alliances, elements, magic, dungeons, and so much more. Combats will be conducted either automatically or manually. So it will depend on your preference.

Closing Thoughts

Other than this, The Kingdom of the Winds, Nexon, Ragnarok Origin, A3: Still Alive, and MU Archangel are also popular in Korea. We have listed RPG games of different plots and gameplays. You are sure to like at least one.

Roleplaying games have an aura to them. Most of the players are inclined to either stories or combat style. The story of the roleplaying games is what keeps players in the loop. It enables the player to step into a world where they can be a king or just a traveller. But, it is never about what you are but the path you choose and the story that unleashes ahead you. This is the magic of roleplaying games that slowly engulfs you in its wonderful yet brilliant world.
