Web3 games company, Gala Games, is launching its Wild West-themed battle royale shooter GRIT on the Epic Games Store. It will be the first Web3 game on the Epic Games Store that remained open to games with NFT and Crypto hooks after marketplace rival steam banned NFT games.

GRIT will be a free-to-play online multiplayer game for Windows PC players, and it will feature user-owned NFT assets that can be purchased, resold, and utilized within the game. Gala aims to make WEB3 games accessible to the masses by launching on the Epic Game store with more than 194 million users.

“Epic is a pioneer and visionary in the video game industry. Gala Games’ titles being available on the Epic Game Store brings legitimacy to this new gaming genre. Easy access to Web3 games is a turning point for those players who have not yet seen how digital ownership can enrich the gaming experience,” said John Osvald, President of Games at Gala Games.

GRIT, the cowboy battle royale game set in the Wild West

Grit was first announced in 2021 as a cowboy battle royale game for Steam. However, the game missed early access launch windows and never surfaced on Steam. In the early access or alpha version of the game, selected gamers who tried the game were left impressed.

The old West theme coupled with six-shooters, steam engines, horses and a poker-based loot system appealed to the gamers, who agreed in unison that it was a good game and not just another battle royale game. However, after the launch announcement on steam, everything about the game was dusted under the carpet, only to resurface again as an NFT game on the Epic Games store.

GRIT is a core battle royale game built on the Unreal Engine with realistic physics and unique twists. The official press release from Gala puts GRIT as a ride-or-die battle royale set in the Wild West. Players need to saddle up, ride and fight through town, building the best poker hand from found weapons to make a killing.

Every game of GRIT is different, from Train Chase mode to Golden Horse, and will test your skills and strategy against other players in epic showdowns and shootouts. Players face off against a gang of gunslingers with more than 400 old-school gun variations.

Showdowns take place on horseback to steam engine train tops, so players need to make sure their arsenal is ready for the deadly Calamity. Play modes include solo, duo and squad. Fans can wish to list the free game, launching later in 2022.

Gala Games will provide a special sale of “The Gunslinger Box” to celebrate Galaverse in Malta from June 6 to 9. The box can be used to unlock one of 10,000 player avatars for GRIT, presenting a unique look and customization for game owners. The sale will be open for Galaverse attendees.

NFT in gaming is struggling to take off

NFTs have failed to impress the gaming world. A fan backlash triggered by Stalker 2 NFT announcement shows that NFT has been unable to impress gamers. Valve’s gaming marketplace steam took a tough stance against NFTs in gaming when it banned such games on its platform in October 2021. It is currently the leading PC gaming platform.

In response to the ban, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney took to Twitter and welcomed creators of NFT games, provided they abided by all rules required for launching such fun for the public. However, Epic Games are still garnering a large fan following among gamers; hence it is still unclear how successful GRIT will get while waiting for players to join in.
