Youtube, the largest video streaming platform, is entering the world of Metaverse through gaming. The platform will also be exploring other newer digital arenas such as blockchain and NFTs technologies. The company unveiled its strategic timeline for 2022 on Thursday.

Neal Mohan, the Chief Product Officer, shared insights into the company’s plans with gaming and incorporating new tech products in the platform. While talking about Web3 and Metaverse, Neal said, “I’m excited for all the new products and tools that we’ll be rolling out in 2022 – you’ll notice a few highly requested features on this year’s roadmap.”

Further, Neal also spoke to the media regarding Metaverse and how YouTube will be integrating this newfound technology with the platform. Currently, Youtube aims to focus on gaming for its metaverse roadmap. With this unique viewing experience, the new features will greatly push gaming content creators.

He emphasized on making the viewing experience more immersive. Although the growing areas are overwhelming in this area, YouTube plans to begin with improving the viewing experience since it will allow the platform to bring “more interactions to games and make them feel more alive.”  Metaverse is an industry where companies have begun jumping to make the most of new tech. YouTube is comparatively new in this area, however, Neal hopes to turn these virtual worlds into a reality for viewers,” Neal stated.

Neal highlighted its proposition with Web3 announcing that it will open up new opportunities for creators.  The new technologies such as blockchain and NFTs can potentially take creators closer to  their fans. This will eventually allow them to collaborate on new projects. The NFTs will also remove financial barriers in the art and art-product industries.

According to experts, incorporating NFTs into the largest streaming platform will create a new market experience for art and other creative areas. In a recently shared blog, Neal spoke of uploading videos, photos, art forms or any experiences with which creators can monetize in the form of NFTs. This will be introduced as a new shopping experience for YouTube creators and other users.

“For example, giving a verifiable way for fans to own unique videos, photos, art, and even experiences from their favorite creators could be a compelling prospect for creators and their audience. There’s a lot to consider in making sure we approach these new technologies responsibly, but we think there’s incredible potential as well,” he added.

At present, YouTube has not commented on a shared video streaming or video consumption experience in a metaverse world. To start with, gaming will be the platform’s center point while also managing other tech exploration such as NFTs and Web3.
