Lee Sang-Hyeok, who is better known as Faker, is one of the best LoL players. You may even spot him on the list of best esports players in the world. He is associated with SKT T1, a professional team. If you are a fan of esports, you should be familiar with this name. At times he has been known as the “The Unkillable Demon King.” Not just this, he has several other nicknames, one of which is “The Greatest of All Time” or “GOAT”. He started his journey of professional gaming in 2013 by being a League of Legends player for his team T1. Since then, he has known nothing but success and victory.

He has several awards to his name, including three World Championships. Faker is one of the only two players to win 3 World Championships. Hence, you can say that his achievements are not just bound within South Korea. Esports players from every corner of the world view him as an idol. He has some dedicated fans. Moreover, his determination towards his teams needs to be praised. Here are some facts about him that you must know –

His Early Life

Lee Sang-hyeok or Faker was born on the 7th of May 1996 in Seoul. Faker has an elder brother. He is the youngest one. Both of them were mainly brought up by their father and grandparents. He started playing games at the young age of 12. He started making custom maps for ‘World of Warcraft iii’, showcasing his brilliant analytical skill even being a teenager. His passion for gaming has been in him since he was a teenager. It didn’t take him long to realize he could become a professional player.

His Journey With League of Legends

Faker was always looking for new games to play. However, his journey with League of Legends started with an accident. He got to know about the game accidentally. But, when he began playing LoL, it didn’t take him long to get addicted to the game. It was a matter of some months for him to become a pro at the game. It was in 2013 that he joined the SKT Telecom T1. He was just 17 years old at that time. He became a high school dropout to play for SKT. Nevertheless, he thinks of completing his studies after he retires.

Highest Paid Player of All Time

Faker isn’t just the best player of all time but the most highly paid one. When it comes to competitive gaming, he is known to be the most highly paid. He is the only player who has earned above 1 million USD. His prize earnings amount to $1,239,840.87. This amount is just from 54 tournaments alone. He is the one League of Legends player to earn such a huge amount. But, all of this should not come as a surprise. After all, he has won way too many championships to date.

New Beginnings With T1

Faker is known to be highly loyal to his team. But, there have been some twists as well. In 2020, he signed a new contract of three years with T1. Many people do not know that with that deal, he also signed to be the part-owner of T1. It turns out he is planning well for his future. Alongside being loyal to his team, he has also taken up the responsibility to nurture it. He announced that he looked forward to work along with the leaders of the group. So, even if he retires as a player, T1 will always have one of the most skilled individuals with them.

Most Kills in League of Legends

Faker has been playing League of Legends for quite a long time. For such a person, you would always expect to have some praise-worthy statistics in the game. Well, he has it! He does not have one of the longest careers in League of Legends. However, he is known to have the most kills in the game. Faker is the only player who has managed to get 2000 kills in League of Legends. In his whole career, he has scored more than 3,500 kills. Not just this, Faker is known to assist more than 5,055 times. If you are looking to upgrade your LoL skills, you must take a look at his gameplays.

Education Till Date

Becoming the best League of Legends player comes with a bunch of responsibilities and sacrifices as well. One of such sacrifices of Faker is to quit High School. He used to study in Mapo High School, but he dropped out to join T1 in 2013. Well, the sacrifice did give him rewards. Nevertheless, it was not just the sacrifice but years of hard work that have helped him reach the top. He went to school with one of his rivals, ‘Deft’. He, too, joined the LCK at the same time as Faker. They are known to be childhood rivals.

Odd Nicknames

Other than “Greatest of All Times”, “Demon King”, or “Unkillable Demon King”, he has another quirky Nickname as well. Well, he is the king of the game but acts like a jungle within the game. To hunt the prey or to save himself, you will mostly see him lurking behind the bushes. He is always waiting for the right time to strike at his foes. This strategy of his had earned him the nickname of “Hide on bush.” You may find multiple variations of the game across the world. Many players didn’t know they were playing against Faker until he decided to strike.

Concluding Thoughts

These were some of the facts about Faker. Other than this, another mentionable fact is that he refrains from buying skins. Riot Games is known to lure people into buying skins. But, Faker, who is the best League of Legends player, has refrained from buying any. He has not spent money on in-game cosmetic purchases.

Moreover, you will spot him playing without any skins. He would instead let his skills do the talking than spending tons of money on flashy cosmetic skins. Catch him play soon if you haven’t yet.
