All the God of War fans, round up and let us hail Kratos! I hope you guys have been looking for some updates on God of War Ragnarok, so here it is. We have gathered all the happening updates on the most awaited game so far. Of course, one of the best news of all is the title being confirmed by Sony. This has cheered up fans across the globe.

The game has been in the news for quite some time now. The fans were busy digging up all the information there was about the God of Ragnarok! There were lots of rumours surrounding the yet-to-release title. Since it became official, the label has been making big promises. All of this was because Santa Monica announced that God of War: Ragnarok would mark the end of the Norse story. Ready yourself to witness some thrilling twists with Atreus and Kratos in this larger-than-life series.

However, we have a hunt through the internet to give you all the juicy updates on this upcoming title. From gameplay to the trailer, we will be discussing almost anything and everything here. So buckle up and get ready to enlighten yourself with the latest news on God of War: Ragnarok!

Let us Start With the Release Date.

This may come as a disappointment to many but God of War: Ragnarok got postponed to 2022. PlayStation Studios and Sony Santa Monica stated this recently. Even though disappointing, it should not come as a surprise given the high-quality cinematics, gameplay, details, etc. Unfortunately, the gameplay and trailer were delayed, which denoted there would be a delay in launch. But, the good news is we can expect the launch early in 2022. Hence, do not be saddened just yet.

“We’ve decided to push that game out to next year, to ensure that Santa Monica Studio can deliver the amazing God of War game that we all want to play,” stated Herman Hulst according to cnet.

About the Trailer

The trailer was released 9th of September 2021 and gave us a lot of insight into the game. The finale picks up right after the predecessor leaves with Atreus and Kratos. You will get a glimpse of the Norse seeking revenge against them. Freya will chase Atreus, who is an adult now, and Kratos. Freya was known to be their ally but has recently turned to be an enemy. Upon all of this, Thor has sent minions to hunt down Kratos. You will see these minions using lightning-infused weaponry to attack Kratos.

One of the most commendable elements from the trailer was Thor’s look. We were offered just a teaser of Thor at the end of the previous game. Ryan Hurst is playing the character of Thor. He has appeared previously in Sons of anarchy and Remembers The Titans. You will catch Sunny Sulijic playing Atreus and Christopher Judge playing Kratos. But, do not make the mistake of taking Thor lightly. He seems to be a mighty menacing villain. He is about to change what people think of the Norse God – Thor.

If you dig up social media, you will come across the first look at the critical art of Thor. He looks nothing that we expected Thor to be. On the contrary, his appearance seems incredibly troublesome. Nevertheless, it was his appearance that made the game so fun. You even get a glimpse of the Dreki, who resembles s mutated alligator, the Stalker, who looks like a centaur. The game is going to introduce other unique creatures as well.

The trailer is quite long. It showed in detail what you can expect from the game and what not to. The previous trailer did not provide us with many details. It only stated a 2021 launch date and a logo.

The Ragnarok Story

You get a broad idea of what to expect from the lengthy trailer. Ages have passed since the last instalment launched in 2018. On the other hand, Kratos looks old, and Atreus has started to show off his giant genes. Both of them together have to face the wrath of Thor. You will see Kratos showing off his muscle power and Atreus implicating his genius. The plot will play across Nine Realms. The three Realms will be added – Asgard, Vanaheim, and Svartalfheim to the six other Realms you’ve already seen.

New characters such as Angrboda have been introduced. The developers of Sony Santa Monica have said Angrboda to be “one of the last remaining giants.” You also get to see Odin’s son Tyr. He happens to be half-brother to Baldur and Thor. However, Tyr was imprisoned by his father, hence might also seek revenge from Odin.

Is It A PS5 Exclusive Game?

Non-PS5 owners can take a relief of breath. This title is not going to be a PS5 exclusive. Nevertheless, it will only be available on PS5. In a very recent interview Hermen Hulst, the head of PlayStation Studios, confirmed it would be releasing on PS4 and PS5.

“Where it makes sense to develop a title for both PS4 and PS5 – for Horizon Forbidden West, the next God of War, GT7 – we’ll continue looking at that,” Herman stated. He also added “And if PS4 owners want to play that game then they can. If they want to go on and play the PS5 version, the game will be there for them” according to GamesRadar.

The Cast of the Game

The cast of the game is one of the many things that fans are excited about. This game will see the return of Christopher Judge as Kratos along with Sunny Suljic as Atreus. Richard Schiff will play Odin, and Ryan Hurst will play Thor. Check out another mention-worthy cast here –

  • Durlin – Usman Ally
  • Sindri – Adam Harrington
  • Mimir – Alastair Duncan
  • Brok – Robert Craighead
  • Thor – Ryan Hurst
  • Freya – Danielle Bisuti
  • Tyr – Ben Prendergast
  • Angrboda – Laya Hayes

Gameplay of Ragnarok

Even though the trailer of September 2021 gave us detailed insight into God of War: Ragnarok, there is still more. Most of it showed some returning aspects such as the popular boat riding, exploration, sequences, and fast action.

The community manager at Santa Monica Studio, Grace Orlady explained that “As a team, we’ve worked hard to take our learnings from God of War (2018) and improve upon combat to feel fresh and familiar,” according to Digital Trends. Grace also added, “With God of War: Ragnarok, one of our main goals was to push player choice in combat. Whether it’s through hard-hitting combos, a mastery of elements, or clever defensive tactics – you will find plenty of opportunities to fight alongside our duo in a way that feels uniquely expressive.”

It is yet to discover whether Ragnarok will offer us more locations to explore than its predecessors or not. Still, we can expect this game to be a single camera shot again. This single element of the game offers an intimate feel.

Concluding Thoughts

This epic heartfelt father and son story has kept its fans awaited for years. Its launch is being delayed for almost two years now. But, this time, we are optimistic to see another great instalment of the series. Many fans are keeping an eye on the pre-order, but sadly there is still no word on it. We are optimistic about getting some news on the release date and pre-order pretty soon. Everyone wishes this to be as epic as the first instalment. Fans have such high expectations from this title as it draws the end of the trilogy. We hope that the series ends with a bang. It has already created quite a hype, yet it is all worth it. Till then, keep a tab on the news about this game.
