The Tesla Cybertruck made an appearance on a gaming competition conducted by WePlay! Esports, on 22nd February 2020. The game in question was the popular Multiplayer Online Battle Arena game, Dota 2. The Cybertruck was used to carry players on to the stage. It merely traveled close to 30 meters, but it was enough to make the headlines.

Elon Musk didn’t accompany the vehicle to the stage. The only other time that happened was in a music video recorded at the company’s design center.

‘Lighting up’ the event

The event revealed the Cybertruck’s ‘upper laser blade’ lights. These lights are only added to the vehicle after its final release to the public. The reason these lights are added is to improve visibility in poorly lit settings. No matter what, the lightings looked really cool on the vehicle and engaged the viewers like anything.

A few days after the unveiling, the Tesla founder announced that the laser blade lights “will be standard.” People were curious about the meaning of that announcement. At the gaming contest, the public was finally able to see the lights and satisfy its curiosity.

Moreover, the vehicle’s unique headlights were also on display at the event.

SO, DID ELON MUSK REALLY BECOME ESPORTS CHAUFFEUR?

The commentators stated that Elon Musk, a passionate gamer himself, was at the wheel of the Cybertruck. This sparked a wave of excitement and expectations amongst the spectators. However, the tinted windows meant that there is no visual evidence at all, and therefore, a very high possibility that somebody else was driving the car.

Despite his love for gaming, the idea that someone, as occupied as Musk would involve himself in an Esports tournament is a bit far-fetched.

Tesla and video games:

The Cybertruck’s appearance at the competition is another example of Tesla’s unique marketing strategy and approach. Instead of turning to conventional promotional methods, Tesla engages itself in unique, enjoyable, and engaging antics.

This is not the first connection between Tesla and video games. One of the quickest cars in GTA V was the Voltic Coil, which was an imitation of Tesla’s Roadster. There is no wonder that fans are pushing for the Cybertruck to be a part of video games as well. Particularly pressing is the online petition to get the vehicle in a set called Rocket League. It is a unique game where players use cars to score a goal by driving the ball into the net. The Roadster has previously featured in games like the Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport.

It is no surprise that Tesla uses racing games to market its products. Such a strategy targets the younger segment of the population – the division, which is an avid social media user and very fond of sharing its experiences.

Unfortunately, it is next to impossible that Elon Musk was chauffeuring the talented gamers. However, the Cybertruck’s presence at the competition just further strengthened the connection between Tesla’s advertising strategy and video games.
